Ringworm disease has nothing to do with any worm infection but it is an infection of the skin that spreads due to a fungal bacteria. This skin infection, when spreads between the fingers, is called “Athletes foot”.  If it spreads in groin area, it is called ‘Tinea Cruises’ or ‘Joke Itch’ and if it is on the face, it is called ‘Tinea facia’ .

Sign And Symptoms of Ringworm:

  • Red, itchy, silvery circular patches on a single or multiple location of the body.
  • Scaly rashes
  • Inflamed Patches
  • Brown or black patches
  • Patches with oozing sticky fluid.
  • Ring-shaped patches which grow in size and even multiply.

Although there are no serious consequences of the ringworm disease, one may experience discomfort the entire day and even in the night due to itching and burning sensation in these patches.

How Ringworm Starts:

  • Any person can catch Ringworm by human or animal contact.
  • It is often spread by skin to skin contact.
  • The fungus that is responsible for ringworm can linger on surfaces, clothes or combs etc.
  • Ringworm can also spread from the soil if you are working or standing barefoot on soil which is infected by the ringworm fungus.
  • A person having low immunity when comes in contact with ringworm fungus can easily catch this disease.

Prevention of Ringworm

  • Wear shoes or sandals in public places or showers
  • Change clothes daily
  • Do not share others’ clothes or towels
  • For the sportspersons – shower properly after each sport activity with medicated soap
  • Keep yourself dry and clean

Role of Homeopathy In Ringworm:

By treating with homeopathy, this disease can be cured completely. Homeopathy medicines are selected based on the symptoms of the patients. However, most useful medicines for curing this disease are:

  • Merc Sol – This is for the patients having slow & dull nature and they answer slowly. They are sensitive. Itching turns aggressive due to perspiration and at night.
  • Rhus Tox – This is used when the itching is ameliorated in hot water, skin gets thickened, you see red circular eruptions which get aggressive in cold weather and cold water.
  • Apis Mel – The patients who need this medicine are irritable and quarrelsome. They are jealous in nature. The ringworm patches show symptoms such as stinging, burning pain. The condition may get ameliorated with cold application but there may be edematous swelling.
  • Ranunculus Bulbosus – It is a skin condition that gets worst in cold and wet weather, change of weather, cold air, or with touch. There may be violent burning and itching sensation too.
  • Sepia – Ringworm gets aggressive in springs, skin get dry, thickened and parchment-like. One should never forget this medicine while treating a case of ringworm.
  • Sulphur – Skin condition gets aggravated due to heat, heat of bed, in winter, and in nights. You may experience increased itching too. Sulphur is used in many skin diseases and it is one of the major remedies for the skin diseases.
